Work To The Glory Of God
"For God is not unjust so as to forget your work and the love which you have shown toward His name..." - Hebrews 6:10
The story is told of a woman who cleaned the same office building for many years. When asked how she endured the drudgery of doing the same chores day in and day out, she replied, "It's not drudgery. You see, I'm working for the King and He's pleased along with others when I do my best."
This woman found the secret to satisfying work. Her focus was not on the tasks, but on the Lord and people. She focused on serving the Lord and her fellow man. How about you? When was the last time you found joy in your work?
The Bible gives us a key: "Whatever you do...do all for the glory of God." When we work for the Lord and to serve other people, work can bring us joy and fulfillment. It all depends on our attitude.
Are you anticipating another day of drudgery? That's what you'll probably get. But if you're planning to live this day to please God and to serve others, you may be surprised how the drudgery is replaced by meaning and purpose.

Wow! What a wake up call. I do hate my job, but God is reminding me that I'm supposed to work for Him. How humbling is that? I pray that God will change my heart, b/c it will be hard! - Susan
We have to remember that going to church does not glorify God as much as how we live our every day lives.
- Barbara
I find that the companionship of Christian music helps immensely to take the drudgery out of doing chores. I do procrastinate and I am sure God is not pleased with that. This devotion reminds me of what I need to be doing right now! It's time to turn off the computer and put something on the CD player. Does anyone have some good recommendations of music to listen to while you work? - Janice
Janice, If you have Direct TV turn on channell 828 to the Enlighten Channell. It has some real good Southern Gospel Music and some Contempary Music also. - Jerry
When we work for the Lord and we do his bidding He does not forget these things, and he will reward us. The main thing we need to make sure of is that we are doing these things for his glory, the problem is that we do things for our glory. I know we all want to be recognized for doing good things for other people but remember the Bible tells us that what we do in secret will be rewarded in the open. Every morning we have two choices to make before we start our day, do we want to be a blessing and have a good attitude or do we want to just get thru the day and not care if we make a good wittness. Consider this before we leave our beds in the morning. - Jerry
Thanks, Jerry, for your suggestion. We do not have direct tv or cable, just the very old fashioned basic tv so it rarely gets turned on except for when my husband wants to watch something like sports or the news or a PBS program. Lately the CDs I have been playing are by The Liberated Wailing Wall,Fernando Ortega,The Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir,Keith & Kristyn Getty and Steve Amerson. It seems to be a rather eclectic selection. I would be interested in knowing who you suggest as Southern Gospel artists? I would like to increase my Christian music selection. Thanks if you feel like sharing. - Janice
Janice, I don't know where you live but in a lot of places you can go to a Christian book store and look for the Bill Gaither Music videos. The have a lot of good groups who sing on them. You can also look on the web and find his web site. Just Google Gaithers Music or Bill Gaither. Then when you hear the groups you can look their web sites. - Jerry
Janice - two CD's I really enjoy are Faithful by the Prestonwood Choir out of Plano, Texas and Look Up by Evidence of Evidence Ministries. You can order both online. They are very uplifting and motivating. I listen to them when I walk, clean my house, drive in my car, etc. If anyone has other suggestions I would love to hear them! - Melanie
My favorite Christian music artist is Third Day. - Austin
Thanks to each of you, Jerry, Melanie and Austin, for your suggestions. They all sound good. I am wondering if Jerry and Austin have a favorite from the Gaithers and Third Day. When groups are so popular and have many CDs to choose from I feel a bit overwhelmed by the selection. What I am really looking for is music that is energetic to motivate me to move while I work. Sometimes I feel like such a slug. Music can get me moving like I am an ant or bee moving with purpose. Thanks for your suggestions. - Janice
The best Third Day CD is Chronology 1. It is kind of a "greatest hits" and has songs from several different albums. Great music and a great group of guys. - Austin
Thank you, Austin, I will order that one, Chronology 1. I also ordered one by the artists, Evidence, that Melanie suggested. I liked what I heard on their website on the CD Out of the Blue. I will be looking into the Gaithers, too. It is nice to be familiar with various styles of Christian music because they are all attempts by the artists to glorify God. Music is truly the universal language. Praise God for that good gift! - Janice
Janice, The style of music I like is real different from the the style the others have suggested. It is the type music that people used to sit on their front porch and play the guitars and sing along. Songs like Amazing Grace, I'll fly away and How Beautiful Heaven must be. When times were simplier and families got together these were the type songs that were heart felt and ministered to the souls that were in need of reviving. One thing about music is the different types touches the different needs of the individual. God Bless - Jerry
Jerry, I do appreciate the type music you like. I have some cousins in south Georgia who have a gospel group and they always have a Christmas get together where they sing and have a wonderful time sharing their talents with the relatives. I have been a few times and it is a treat. It is amazing that so many styles of music can touch peoples' hearts for Jesus. My brother has no tolerance for Christian rock but I have reminded him that it reaches those folks who would not be reached by other music or methods. Have you by any chance seen the documentary on PBS about Sacred Harp (shape note singing)? I really like that kind of music, too. - Janice
Janice, Yes I have not only heard of it but about 28 years ago I was in a quartet and we attended two different singing schools. When I couldn't sing the notes because I didn't have the air in my lungs the instructor would make myself and others lie on our stomachs and sing to strengthen our diaframs. I am a bass singer and in Southern Gospel Music the bass has alot of solo parts. Now that I am older I just blame not having air on age and size. Ha Ha. I love music and I enjoy seeing anyone praising God with their voice. There is nothing like seeing someone so full of Gods love that they can't sing for the tears in their eyes and lump in their throat. Keep singing and praising God. - Jerry
Jerry, That is amusing what you had to do to become a better singer. My husband sings bass in a small church choir and sometimes he does solos, duets and quartets. They really miss him when he is out since there are more ladies in the choir than men and it also helps that he reads music and can keep those who don't on track. I am always thankful that my husband has his nice singing ability. He does smoke so it seems he would give out of air but so far the Lord has blessed him to be able to keep singing despite the smoking. Please pray that he will give up the smoking. I want him to keep singing! - Janice
