An Outrageous Claim
"I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill." - Matthew 5:17
One of the most outrageous claims ever made by a man was this: "Do you think I have come to abolish the law or the prophets? I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them."
The man who made that claim was Jesus and the law and the prophets He referred to was Scripture. Jesus claimed to be the fulfillment of how to live a good and moral life. He claimed to be the fulfillment of the prophets of old like Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Daniel. Wow! What a claim!
He showed this through His life, His death, and His resurrection from the dead. To believe Scripture is to believe Jesus. To believe Jesus is to believe He fulfills the Scripture. But even more, He shows us how to fulfill the commands of God.
When asked what the greatest commandment was He replied, "Love the Lord your God with your heart, soul, and mind and your neighbor as yourself." You can't obey one without the other. Jesus is the only one to perfectly fulfill God's Word.

Thank you RFTH for this great devotion that reminds believers of that place Jesus fills in our lives. He fills in the gap between us and the law for what we can not do on our own we can do through His power and strength. When we fall short He covers for us. It is a challenge to love my neighbor as myself and sometimes I go beyond my ability because Christ is in me. Sometimes He lets me fail so I can seek His forgiveness and know I can do better next time. Jesus is such a blessed provision for our needs.
From Jerry on Mar 26th:
Thank God we are not under the law because we all would be worthy of death but because of the blood of Jesus we are now able to be forgiven for our sins. Isn't it great to have this good news to give to the world.
From Jerry on Mar 26th:
Christ also said in Matthew 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. That is his word, the Holy Bible, Gods word is just like a sword it cuts us to the heart when it is taught and preached in its purity. To many want to water it down but it is our blood line with Christ. If we have a blood transfusion and the red cross waters down the blood we will die from not getting what we need, it is the same with the word of God.

I appreciated what you said, Jerry. To claim to be a Christian but not read, believe, trust in, and follow the entire Word of God (aka the Bible), just as it is without compromising anything, is complete hypocrisy. Too many churches these days are willing to compromise with the world by taking the focus off our sinfulness and putting it on all the "safe" parts of the Bible - the parts that don't step on anyone's toes. But we need to be stepped on in order to learn where God doesn't want us to tread...
