Inflation That Calls For Deflation
"... I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think..." - Romans 12:3
There's a story of a British general serving in Asia who hosted a dinner party for distinguished guests. One of those guests was an aristocratic lady visiting from England. The general's assistant seated her to his left while the highest seat of honor was to his right. She seethed inside and as the dinner wore on, she could not contain herself. She haughtily complained to the general, "I guess you have difficulty finding qualified help to seat people properly."
To which the general replied, "Not at all. Those who matter don't mind and those who mind, don't matter."
Her ego was suffering from inflation that called for deflation. It's a reminder of the danger of prideful arrogance. The more our ego gets inflated, the more life has a way of humbling us--big time. God's Word tells us to not think more highly of ourselves than we ought, for ego inflation leads to ego deflation in the most humiliating ways.

The Buddhists are very proud of Christians for finally figuring how important it is to get rid of the ego. - Erik
And the Christians will be proud of the Buddhists when they figure out that a dude sitting criss-cross applesauce is not a Savior or a god.
God said that He is God and there is no other. Yet, when He should have just wiped us all out and let animals rule the earth, He humbled Himself and became one of us, in the form of Jesus, so He could talk to us face to face without us dropping dead. He is our example for anything; loving others, having faith, praying, etc, etc.
Thank God for His grace because I still can't do it all the time. My opening statement is a prime example of what my flesh wants to say in response to a worthless comment. But my Spirit says God loves Buddhist and people who make worthless comments and they need to be told, again, even though they might know more than most Christians know about Gods word, His love, His promises and His free gift of salvation and yet still ignore it, that it is the truth and the truth shall set them free. - Keith R.
Amen, and very well said Brother Keith. - Bridgette
I think that this devotional is a really good one because I would have to say that a majority of people struggle with this so much. I know I do almost everyday. - Kimberley
